Impact matters more than fund flow, says Sue Toomey, CEO of the Asia Community Foundation.
Sue Toomey’s many roles throughout her career have had one thing in common – they have all required her to forge links.
Now, as chief executive officer (CEO) of the Singapore-based Asia Community Foundation (ACF), that function is front and centre as she and her team connect donors with each other and with causes, matching resources to needs.
“The priority really is to help unlock better, more informed, strategic giving,” Toomey (pictured) said to PhilanthropyAsia. “We have some very experienced donors with a lot of knowledge to share and new ones who want to know how to get started with giving. It’s all about creating a community of donors.”
Launched in September 2023, ACF is billed as the first Asia-focused independent community foundation to offer donor-advised funds (DAFs), which are associated with a single account, and impact funds, which are collaborative and involve more than one donor.
Being regional in scope, the foundation is able to advise donors on issues beyond Singapore while its due diligence covers not just social-impact organisations but also donors.
